KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign investors remained net sellers of Malaysian equities for the fourth consecutive weeks, but outflow slowed to RM77.9mil against RM173.24mil in the preceding week, according to MIDF Research.
As the market reopened last Monday, foreign investors sold RM41.54mil net of local equities, with retailers and local institutions both as net buyers and net sellers to the tune of RM60.65mil and RM18.91mil respectively.
“Foreign investors were net sellers every day except on Wednesday. The largest foreign outflow was recorded on Tuesday at RM94.58mil and the smallest outflow was on Monday at RM41.54mil. The only inflow recorded on Wednesday is to the tune of RM151.59mil,” MIDF said in its weekly fund flow report.
The research house noted that retailers were net buyers every day except on Wednesday with the largest net buying on Monday at RM60.45mil and the smallest net buying on Thursday at RM7.87mil.
Cumulatively, for the week, retailers net bought RM88.84mil worth of equities in Bursa, MIDF said.
Meanwhile, local institutions cumulative weekly outflow was to the tune of RM10.92mil.
The biggest net buying was on Tuesday at RM50.69mil while the smallest net buying was on Thursday at RM35.64mil.The biggest net selling happened on Wednesday at RM114.54mil.
“Since the beginning of 2021, cumulatively, retailers have been the only net buyers of our equity market to the tune of RM5.41bil.
“Local institutions and foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of RM3.64bil and RM1.77bil, respectively,” MIDF said.
In terms of participation, the retail investors, local institutions and foreign investors recorded a weekly decrease of 7.00%, 9.77% and 7.21% respectively in average daily trade value.
Last week, Public Bank recorded the highest net money inflow of RM3.50mil. KLK saw the second highest net money inflow of RM3.25mil while Top Glove saw the third highest net money in-flow of RM3.18mil.
On the other hand, Serba Dinamik saw the largest net money out-flow of RM4.24mil last week.
Axiata recorded the second largest net money outflow of RM3.17mil during the week under review.
Petronas Gas registered the third largest net money outflow of RM2.02mil last week.
